Sarah Jane Limehouse Armstrong was an educator for 34 years and received the Distinguished Alumna Award from Winthrop University in Physical Education, received the Order of Palmetto from Gov. Campbell in 1993, and was named South Carolina's Elementary Physical Education teacher of the year in 1989. Our family gave an 1820 Riddle Log Cabin to the Joe Adair Center in Laurens, SC to encourage the teaching of South Carolina History.  Armstrong is a member of the Gray Court Owings Historical Society that has a collection of Log Cabins, a Church, a School, and other buildings. It will be on the Laurens County American Revolution 250th Sestercentennial Tour. Armstrong traveled to England, Wales, Ireland, and Germany doing genealogical research. She belongs to several lineages societies and is on the Laurens County Museum Board and the Laurens County Genealogical Society Board.  Also, Armstrong led efforts to place SC Historical Road markers in Laurens and Dorchester Counties. She wrote the History of "Dials United Methodist Church “(1808-2008) and was a contributing writer for the" Discovering Laurens County" Books in 3 Volumes and over thousand pages. Armstrong was born in Charleston, SC a few blocks from her ancestor's farm on Limehouse Street. Her relatives include Thomas Limehouse who signed the Siege of Charleston in 1780 and was in the SC militia. Joseph Kellett owner of Kellett's Blockhouse furnished ration and forage for 500 men and horses during the American Revolution. Kellett is one of Armstrong's Laurens County ancestors in the American Revolution. Other Patriots were Richard Owings IV, Mary McCool Babb, Henry Meredith, and John Gray. My husband's Armstrong Patriots were Col. John Armstrong and Martin Dial. Armstrong lives on the Curry farm that has been in the Curry family since 1800. It is an honor to serve on the 250 Anniversary committee and share our genealogy and history of our beautiful, historical Laurens County and the State of South Carolina with others.
