biography 

Carolyn Beasaley Shortt is a Laurens County native. Her parents are the late Mr. C. D. Beasley, Sr., Entrepreneur, and Mrs. Lucinda S. Beasely, Retired Educator.  She is married to Dr. Robert E. Shortt, Retired Assistant Superintendent of Laurens County School District 55. They have two children, Mr. Cardell Elisha (Angela Witherspoon) Shortt, National Enterprise Account Director, EMD Serono, Inc., and Reverend Robert Beasley (Dr. Tammy Stuckey) Shortt, Pastor of Lee Street Church of God, Darlington, S.C. Granddaughters: Nina Ari, Ava Marie, and Nyla Ani Shortt.

 

Mrs.Shortt is an honor graduate of Thomas Sanders High School, and a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, North Carolina. Shortt received a Master of Education degree from Clemson University, and a Master plus Thirty Hours in Administration, SCDE. Her career includes currently serving as District Transition Coordinator for Laurens County School District 55 and has served in other former administrative capacities in the district.  She is a Licensed Funeral Director, Certified Funeral Service Provider (CFSP) with Beasley's Funeral Home Inc.

 

Regardless of Race, Creed, or Color, Shortt believes in serving people in the community and making a difference.  "All Children Can Learn".  

 

Community involvement includes a member of the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, Laurens County  American Revolutionary 250th  Sestercennial Committee, and former Laurens County Museum President serving several years, as she was fortunate to serve ( along with other officers) when the museum was gifted a million dollars, Parliamentarian of the South Carolina Division of Career and Transition, Former 2022 South Carolina of Exceptional Children Advocate of the Year, General Secretary of the South Carolina Morticians, Inc. and Member of the National Funeral Director and Morticians  Association Inc. 2022, S.C.  District IV Morticians Professional of the Year; President of the African American Historical Society of Laurens County; Member of  Executive Committee of the South Carolina State Conference NAACP; Secretary of the Laurens County Branch of the NAACP.   She received the prestigious honor of the 2023 South Carolina State Conference NAACP Woman of the Year.  She is a member of the Nu Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she has served as the former President and Cluster VIII Coordinator.  She is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions professionally and in the community.

 

Church affiliation is the Evening Light Church of God in Laurens where she serves as Church Historian and Minister of Music.  She also served as a former church pianist for nearly fifteen years plus following her mom, the late Mrs. Lucinda Beasley. She also serves as regional treasurer for the  Piedmont Region of the Christian Women Connection (CWC) of the Church of God.
