About the event

South Carolina classrooms will help kick off the 250th anniversary of American Independence on Friday January 16, 2026! Liberty Day at the Statehouse is a one-of- a-kind educational experience that expands our students’ knowledge of U.S. and South Carolina history. This engaging and action-packed field trip brings history and civics to life for 250 selected fourth-grade students. The South Carolina Statehouse is a unique site where students can experience art, history, and government.

After being welcomed by the Governor and other dignitaries, students will meet historical interpreters and participate in hands-on, interactive experiences. Through this unique opportunity, we hope to foster an enthusiasm for learning about our state’s people, history and government.

 

All SC public school teachers, currently teaching 4th grade social studies are eligible to apply.
