The Culbertson Backcountry Settlement is situated in Gray Court, SC, along the old Georgia Road, which used to serve as the Wagon and Stage Coach Road to Georgia. The stagecoach would signal the number of guests staying or dining at the Dorroh Inn, a historic stagecoach stop that still stands on Georgia Road just west of Old Laurens Road.
On the premises, you'll discover two log cabins dating back to 1790, a blockhouse constructed in 1770, and a one-room African-American schoolhouse established around 1870. Additionally, there's an 1885 church standing within the settlement's grounds. The land where the settlement now stands was previously the location of the Dorroh Presbyterian Church, which was dismantled in the 1940s.

The Culbertson Backcountry Settlement is open to the public. For a guided tour reach out to Dianne Culbertson or Sarah Jane Armstrong with the Gray Court-Owings Historical Society.
